Christchurch mosque attacker's appeal against guilty pleas rejected
Brenton Tarrant, the Australian responsible for the 2019 Christchurch mosque shootings, has had his appeal against his guilty pleas dismissed by New Zealand's Court of Appeal.The court ruled that his application was "utterly devoid of merit" and rejected claims that poor mental health due to prison conditions compelled him to plead guilty.Tarrant pleaded guilty in March 2020 to 51 counts of murder, 40 counts of attempted murder, and a terrorism charge, following the worst mass shooting in New Zealand's history.He is currently serving life imprisonment without the possibility of parole.The Court of Appeal's decision came after a five-day hearing in...
