Ireland inflation rises to 3.7% as energy prices surge

Ireland's annual inflation rate rose to 3.7% in August, according to new figures from the Central Statistics Office. That was up from 3.4% in July and was driven largely by higher energy costs, including oil, petrol, diesel and electricity. The data point to renewed pressure on households and businesses as the country moves towards the winter period.The official figures show home heating oil rising by 44% over the past 12 months.
