Russia begins building new military base near Finland border
Russia has begun constructing a new military base close to Finland's eastern border, according to aerial imagery and reporting published on 11 June 2026. The site is described as being about 100 miles from the NATO border and appears to be in the early stages of development. Images show a dozen new barracks under construction after forest clearing began in late 2025.The reported capacity of the base is estimated at between 4,000 and 6,000 personnel. Ukraine and Latvia sign drone cooperation deal in Tallinn
Ukraine and Latvia have signed a drone cooperation agreement on the sidelines of a summit in Tallinn, in a fresh sign of expanding defence ties between Kyiv and European partners.
