Nevada declares state of emergency as Hawk Fire forces mass evacuations near Reno
A fast-moving wildfire near Reno, Nevada has triggered a state of emergency and forced the evacuation of nearly 14,000 homes. The blaze, known as the Hawk Fire, began near Hawk Meadow Trail and spread rapidly through the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains in northwest Nevada. Officials said the fire was moving toward residential areas as strong winds, low humidity and dry vegetation helped drive its growth.Truckee Meadows Fire and Rescue said the fire had grown to more than 4,450 hectares, or 10,500 acres, by Sunday.
