US imposes new sanctions on Cuban mining and construction entities
The United States has announced a new round of sanctions targeting nine Cuban state-owned mining, metal and construction companies, in a move that adds fresh pressure on the island's economy. The measures were posted on the US Treasury Department's website on Thursday and also include three leaders at the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples, known as ICAP.
