On August 1, 2019, the Somali National Army, working alongside Ugandan troops under the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), thwarted a coordinated attack by Kharijite militants targeting the Mubaarak area in Lower Shabelle. The joint forces maintained control of the battlefield, killing more than 40 militants and inflicting heavy casualties, effectively dismantling the offensive.
