Stanlow refinery pollution breaches under investigation after dozens of limit exceedances
One of the United Kingdom's largest oil refineries is under investigation after documents suggested it repeatedly exceeded pollution limits in 2023 and 2024. The Stanlow refinery in Ellesmere Port, Cheshire, is said to have released toxic chemicals and oil into local rivers, the Mersey Estuary and groundwater on dozens of occasions.
