US Operation Southern Spear has carried out more than 60 strikes at sea, report says
The US military has carried out more than 60 strikes on suspected drug-trafficking boats in the Caribbean and Eastern Pacific since September 2025, according to a report published on 2 September 2026. The campaign, known as Operation Southern Spear, has killed more than 220 people. The report says the strikes have taken place largely out of public view.The administration of President Donald Trump has described the operation as a war against "narcoterrorism".
