Dissent surfaces in Jakarta during Indonesia's Independence Day celebrations
Indonesia marked its 81st Independence Day with large-scale celebrations in Jakarta, but the event also became a stage for public criticism of President Prabowo Subianto and his government. Several of the capital's main roads were closed as hundreds of thousands of people lined the streets, while the centrepiece of the day was the United Harmony of the Archipelago Carnival, which featured 32 floats representing government ministries and agencies.
