Russian Aeroflot plane remains stranded at Geneva airport after sanctions ban flights
A Russian passenger plane has remained parked at Geneva airport since the start of the full-scale war in Ukraine, after sanctions prevented it from leaving Switzerland. The Aeroflot Airbus A321, registered VP-BOE and named after Russian soprano Galina Vishnevskaya, landed in Geneva on 27 February 2022. It has stayed there ever since, becoming one of the more visible examples of how aviation sanctions have affected Russian carriers.The aircraft was due to return to Russia, but the following day Switzerland joined European countries in banning Russian aircraft from landing or taking off from its airports.
