Pakistan checkpoint attack in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa kills 27 as search continues
A suicide attack on a security checkpoint in northwestern Pakistan has killed 27 people, according to the military, in a major escalation of violence in the country's border region. The assault took place overnight in Tank district, in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province near the Afghan border. Officials said the dead included soldiers, police officers, a forestry official and the attackers themselves.The military said the attackers first tried to force their way into the checkpoint before ramming an explosives-laden vehicle into the perimeter wall.
