Pentagon watchdog says Iran war exposed US munitions shortfall and industrial bottlenecks

A US Defence Department inspector general report has confirmed that the war with Iran left the military facing shortages of ammunition and advanced weapons. The report said the conflict created strategic inventory shortfalls and exposed bottlenecks in the defence industry's ability to replenish supplies. It also said the scale of weapons used during the campaign tested the United States' stockpiles and resupply system.The report estimated that Operation Epic Fury cost $33.4 billion between 28 February and 30 June, with $22.3 billion spent on munitions alone.
