Two Assam Rifles personnel were killed on Monday after militants ambushed their convoy in Manipur's Ukhrul district, in a fresh attack on Indian security forces in the state's hill region. The assault took place near Nungsangkhong, about 16 km east of Ukhrul Police Station, according to a police source. Security forces have since launched a search operation in the area.The attack happened at around 1:30 p.m. and involved explosives and gunfire, the source said.
