Moldova elects Vasile Tofan as prime minister in fresh push for EU membership
Moldova's parliament has elected financier Vasile Tofan as prime minister and approved his new government, ending three weeks of uncertainty in the country's leadership. The vote came on Tuesday and confirmed a renewed pro-European Union mandate for the administration. Tofan replaces Alexandru Munteanu, who stepped down suddenly after only eight months in office.Tofan was approved by 53 votes to 21, with 21 abstentions.
