US imposes visa restrictions on South African officials over alleged discrimination
The United States has announced visa restrictions targeting people it accuses of promoting race-based discrimination, inciting violence, or enabling land confiscation without compensation in South Africa. The move marks a further deterioration in relations between Washington and Pretoria and was announced by Secretary of State Marco Rubio. Rubio said South Africa had not adequately addressed concerns previously raised by the US.The restrictions were described as aimed at those who, in the US view, discriminate against South Africa's white minority.
