NATS says software defect caused UK air traffic outage and mass flight cancellations
The UK's National Air Traffic Services has said a software defect caused the air traffic control outage that disrupted flights earlier this month. The failure led to more than 2,000 cancellations and affected hundreds of thousands of passengers. Flights in and out of major airports, including Heathrow, Gatwick, Luton and Glasgow, were among those hit.In its initial report, NATS said the defect occurred in the system that underpins the management of UK airspace.
