UN Launches Delivery Phase of Global Reform to Boost Impact on Peace, Development

The United Nations is advancing its comprehensive UN80 reform initiative into a delivery-focused stage after launching it last year to overhaul how the global body operates. Member States recently received updates on selected proposals, including an initial assessment for potentially merging UN Women and the UN Population Fund to streamline efforts on gender equality and reproductive health.

The reform package encompasses 86 targeted actions intended to strengthen coordination and effectiveness across peace and security, development, human rights, and humanitarian assistance. The goal is to make better use of resources and mandates, thus increasing the UN’s overall impact on global challenges.

This shift marks a critical moment for international cooperation, as it prioritizes concrete action and the implementation of reforms. The success or failure of these changes affects millions worldwide who rely on UN programs for security, development aid, and rights protections.

Focusing on improved technology and data use, the initiative also aims to modernize operations and enhance transparency in delivering global public goods, reflecting growing demands for accountability and results from Member States and served populations alike.
