British Man Charged with Terrorism Offences Linked to Al-Shabaab in Somalia

On 9 April 2026, Jermaine Grant, a 43-year-old British man with no fixed address, was charged with multiple terrorism offences linked to the Somalia-based Islamist terrorist group Al-Shabaab. The investigation was conducted by Counter Terrorism Policing London and authorized by the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS). Grant faces charges of directing the activities of a terrorist organisation contrary to Section 56 of the Terrorism Act 2000. Additionally, he is charged with three counts of attending an Al-Shabaab commando training camp in Kismayu, Somalia, in violation of Section 8 of the Terrorism Act 2006. He is also charged with two counts of possessing an AK47 firearm for terrorist purposes under Section 57 of the Terrorism Act 2000. The charges concern alleged activities occurring between 31 December 2007 and 1 January 2010. Grant is scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on 9 April 2026. Acting Commander Kris Wright of CTP London highlighted the seriousness of the charges and emphasized that the authorities will pursue suspects regardless of the elapsed time or geographic location of alleged terrorist acts.
