EGA to Acquire 80% Stake in Italian Aluminium Recycler Eco Green

EGA to Acquire 80% Stake in Italian Aluminium Recycler Eco Green

Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA), based in the United Arab Emirates, has announced its intention to acquire an 80 percent share in the Italian aluminium recycling company Eco Green. This transaction is contingent on regulatory approvals and represents a strategic expansion of EGA's recycling operations within the European market.

Eco Green, founded in 1993 and headquartered in Villafranca di Verona, northeast Italy, specialises in aluminium scrap collection, sorting, casting, and dross processing. The company manages over 70,000 tonnes of aluminium scrap annually across its facilities.

Its Villafranca plant handles approximately 23,000 tonnes of aluminium scrap each year. A portion of the sorted scrap is processed at Eco Green's Nogara di Verona facility, which produces over 20,000 tonnes of secondary aluminium sows per annum and processes dross.

The company has announced an expansion at this facility that will increase recycled aluminium capacity by an additional 15,000 tonnes annually, scheduled for completion early in the second half of 2026. Eco Green serves more than 60 customers across Europe, targeting aluminium processing, semi-fabrication industries, and end-users in automotive, construction, and various industrial sectors.

The company's scrap sourcing network includes more than 350 suppliers, ensuring sustainable access to quality aluminium scrap. Post-acquisition, Eco Green's management team and workforce of 70 employees are expected to remain in place.

The acquisition will expand EGA's recycling network, which already includes operations in Germany and the United States, and the UAE's largest aluminium recycling plant located in Abu Dhabi's Al Taweelah. EGA previously acquired Germany's Leichtmetall in 2024, and the United States recycling firm Spectro Alloys in 2024, with ongoing expansions expected to significantly raise capacity in both locations.

With this Italian acquisition, EGA will increase its total aluminium recycling capacity to over 400,000 tonnes per year across key global markets, with another 200,000 tonnes capacity under construction. EGA markets recycled aluminium globally under its RevivAL brand and emphasizes the environmental benefits of recycling, noting it uses approximately 95 percent less energy and greatly reduces greenhouse gas emissions compared to primary aluminium production.

The acquisition of Eco Green aligns with EGA's strategy to grow its presence in the European aluminium recycling market, supporting the region's increasing demand for recyclable aluminium products. Industry analysts project global recycled aluminium demand to double by 2040, with Europe ranked as the third largest recycled aluminium market worldwide after the United States and China.

Recycled aluminium currently accounts for around 40 percent of Europe's aluminium demand, measured at an estimated 4.9 million tonnes in 2025, and forecasted to rise to approximately 7.2 million tonnes by 2033. Abdulnasser Bin Kalban, CEO of EGA, stressed the strategic importance of Eco Green for expanding EGA's European scrap market reach and production capabilities.

Luca Scappini, CEO of Eco Green, highlighted that joining a global aluminium producer will enable growth opportunities, expanded scrap supplies, and enhanced customer networks across Europe.
