EU approves EUR 15 million aid package for Bosnia and Herzegovina armed forces

The Council of the EU has adopted a third bilateral assistance measure under the European Peace Facility in support of the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The package is valued at EUR 15 million and is aimed at strengthening the country's military and defence capabilities.

According to the Council, the decision builds on support already provided under the 2021 and 2022 bilateral support package. The new measure is intended to improve the interoperability and operational readiness of the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The assistance is also described as increasing the force's potential to contribute to EU Common Security and Defence Policy operations and missions, as well as to international coalitions. The Council said the decision reflects continued engagement with Bosnia and Herzegovina in security and defence and notes the country's full alignment with the EU Common Foreign and Security Policy.

The European Peace Facility will provide individual protective equipment, CBRN equipment, night vision devices and cargo vehicles. It will also provide related supplies and services, including operational training where needed.

The Council added that Bosnia and Herzegovina participates in the Balkan Medical Task Force, a regional task force also supported by the facility.
