Rubio's Greenland remarks revive Trump Arctic control push and NATO ally concerns

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has renewed attention on Washington's interest in Greenland after saying during a House hearing that the island is part of Denmark "for now". The comment came during a hearing of the US House Foreign Affairs Committee on 3 June and was quickly read as echoing President Donald Trump's repeated calls for the United States to control the Arctic territory. Rubio later said talks with Denmark and Greenland on defence cooperation and military access were continuing.
