China and India hold 25th boundary talks in Beijing, reach eight-point consensus

China and India held the 25th Round of Talks between their Special Representatives on the boundary question on August 25, 2026, in Beijing. China's Special Representative Wang Yi and India's Special Representative Ajit Doval carried out what the source described as a candid and in-depth exchange of views on the China-India boundary question.

The two sides said they reached eight points of outcomes and consensus. They reaffirmed commitments to uphold guidance from the leaders of both countries, maintain peace and tranquility in the border areas, and create conditions for the healthy and steady development of bilateral relations.

The talks also covered negotiations on a framework for settlement of the boundary question in line with the 2005 Agreement on Political Parameters and Guiding Principles and consensus from later SR talks. The two sides said the Expert Group on Boundary Delimitation and the Working Group on Border Management under the WMCC would advance discussions on an Early and Substantial Harvest and border management, starting with agreement on their terms of reference.

Both sides agreed that any situation on the ground would be handled promptly through existing diplomatic and military channels, including the WMCC, local commander-level meetings and other agreed mechanisms, to avoid misunderstanding and miscalculation along the LAC. They also agreed on two additional meeting points for the General Level Mechanism/Senior Highest Military Commander meeting and two additional border military hotline channels in the Eastern and Middle Sectors.

The next SR talks will be held in India in 2027, while the next meeting of the China-India Expert-Level Mechanism on Trans-border Rivers was set for September.
