Finland's President Stubb to lead delegation at UN General Assembly in New York

President of the Republic of Finland Alexander Stubb will be in New York from 20 to 24 September 2026 to lead the Finnish delegation during the high-level week of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly. The session theme is "Restoring trust, managing transformation: A United Nations that delivers for all." Stubb is scheduled to deliver Finland's national statement on Tuesday 22 September.

During the week, he will co-chair an international discussion event on the use of artificial intelligence with Kenyan President William Ruto and host a high-level event focused on the UN's efforts to promote peace and security. His programme also includes several other events at the level of heads of state and government, along with bilateral meetings.

The Finnish president will also attend a reception hosted by US President Donald Trump and Melania Trump. He is due to speak at an Atlantic Council event, where he will receive the organisation's Global Citizen Award.

Finland will promote its candidacy for a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council for the 2029, 2030 term during the General Assembly week. The Finnish delegation will include Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen and Foreign Trade and Development Minister Ville Tavio.
