Finland and Ukraine sign enhanced defence and security cooperation deal

President of Finland Alexander Stubb and President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed an agreement on enhanced defence and security cooperation on Wednesday 23 September in New York. The accord deepens cooperation between Finland and Ukraine and is aimed at strengthening the defence capabilities, industrial cooperation and technological development of both countries.

Stubb said Ukraine needs all support in its defence and that the cooperation is mutually beneficial. He said Finland can strengthen its own capabilities by learning from Ukraine's experience.

The statement links the deal directly to defence and security cooperation at the presidential level. The agreement enables transfer of technology, knowledge and expertise between the two countries.

It also opens the way for joint industrial projects, including work on drone technology. In Finland, the Ministry of Defence is responsible for practical implementation of the agreement.
