The projects are tied to the EU's Critical Raw Materials Act targets for 2030, which seek to ensure that EU capacity covers at least 10 percent of annual consumption through extraction, 40 percent through processing and 25 percent through recycling of strategic raw materials. The Commission said the new projects were chosen from 102 applications.
The package includes eight extraction projects, 11 processing projects, 19 recycling projects and eight integrated projects. Those integrated projects include three combining extraction and processing, and five combining processing and recycling.
Together, the projects cover 15 of the 17 strategic raw materials listed under the CRMA, including lithium, nickel, cobalt, manganese and graphite.
