EU regrets Palestinian Authority postponement of elections to September 2027
The European Union has said it deeply regrets the Palestinian Authority's decision to postpone legislative elections originally scheduled for 28 November 2026 and a presidential election due in early 2027 until September 2027. The statement was issued by the High Representative on behalf of the EU.

The EU said it acknowledges the challenges and limitations facing the Palestinian Authority, but reiterated that democratic and transparent elections throughout the occupied Palestinian territory are long overdue. It said Palestinians must be able to vote to elect their leadership and representatives to their institutions, and referred to President Abbas' previous commitments on holding elections.
The statement said the EU remains ready to support the electoral process, including by deploying an EU Election Observation Mission. It also restated the EU's long-standing support for Palestinian state-building efforts and reforms, saying credible, inclusive and transparent elections are vital for the Palestinian people, democratic legitimacy, accountability and the two-state solution.
The EU added that continued support to the Palestinian Authority goes hand in hand with progress toward these objectives and advancing reforms.
