G7 pledges $2.5 billion for food insecurity in 44 vulnerable countries
G7 countries have pledged $2.5 billion to address food insecurity in vulnerable nations, French Finance Minister Roland Lescure said on Thursday in Bangkok. The announcement came on the sidelines of the annual meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank.

Lescure said the World Bank has identified 44 countries that may face food security issues because of soaring global energy prices. He said the G7 was focused on what he called the poorest countries, describing them as the weakest links in the current global situation.
The minister said the pledge is meant to support food security, with particular emphasis on fertilisers. He told reporters that the bloc had pledged the money together for that purpose.
