China’s top research body has banned its scientists from using government funds to publish in some pricey Western journals, as the country rethinks how much it will pay for foreign prestige. A number of employees of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), the world’s largest research institution said they were notified of changes to publication and reimbursement rules just before the Chinese New Year break.
