Bogus watches intercepted by CBP officers in Cincinnati

On February 15, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers in Cincinnati seized a shipment of 12 counterfeit luxury watches shipped from Colombia. The parcel was en route to a residence in Los Angeles when intercepted. These watches falsely bore the trademarks of renowned brands including Rolex, Cartier, Patek Philippe, Tissot, and Invicta. If genuine, the retail value of the seized watches would top $279,000.

The discovery underlines the rising challenge of counterfeit goods being shipped through increasing e-commerce channels. CBP's specialized trade experts determined the items to be counterfeit, protecting authentic brand integrity and preventing potential consumer harm. The seizure disrupts illegal trade networks profiting from scams targeting online buyers.

Consumers face risks from such counterfeit goods as many fail to meet safety and quality standards, often posing health hazards or financial loss. Protecting the public from these scams remains a key priority for customs and border agencies. The Cincinnati Port Director emphasized the importance of vigilance amid growing online sales.

This operation not only prevents significant economic damage to esteemed brands but also safeguards consumers from deceptive products. With the ongoing expansion of global e-commerce, the interception acts as a deterrent against the proliferation of fake luxury goods in the United States.
