Two Men Jailed for Running Yacht People-Smuggling ‘VIP Ferry’ from France to UK

Two Ukrainian nationals, Vladyslav Cherniavskyi and Oleksandr Yavtushenko, have been jailed for operating a people-smuggling scheme using a yacht to ferry migrants from France to the UK. The yacht, named Uforia, was tracked from Le Havre, France, and intercepted by UK Border Security Command officers near the Isle of Wight. The men were arrested along with five migrants—four Albanian men and one Vietnamese woman—who were being illegally transported into the UK.

The operation underscores the persistence of sophisticated maritime smuggling methods exploiting vulnerable migrants seeking entry to the UK. The use of a private yacht as a “VIP ferry service” suggests smugglers are targeting individuals able to pay higher fees for covert passage.

Border forces’ ability to detect and intercept these vessels is crucial to UK immigration enforcement and maritime security, reducing unlawful crossings and safeguarding migrant lives. This incident also reflects wider challenges facing European border agencies in combatting organized smuggling networks amid ongoing migration flows.

The jailed smugglers now face penalties that act as a deterrent to similar operations, reinforcing the UK’s commitment to disrupt people trafficking and uphold border integrity amid complex migration pressures.
