UK Condemns Myanmar Military for Escalating Abuses Amid Denial of Humanitarian Aid

The UK has expressed deep concern over the escalating human rights violations in Myanmar under military rule. Civilians are enduring indiscriminate airstrikes, mass displacement, arbitrary arrests, and widespread sexual and gender-based violence. The military is also accused of systematically blocking humanitarian aid, aggravating food shortages and denying critical medical assistance to millions of people.

The military-led elections recently held in Myanmar have been condemned by the UK as neither free nor fair, undermining any prospects for legitimate governance. This situation continues to destabilize the country, worsening the humanitarian crisis and prolonging suffering.

The UK reaffirmed its support for ASEAN's Five Point Consensus and the ongoing efforts by ASEAN and UN Special Envoys to mediate the conflict. It called urgently on Myanmar’s military to allow safe and unrestricted access for humanitarian organizations to reach vulnerable populations.

The deteriorating conditions affect millions of civilians, creating a complex humanitarian emergency with far-reaching consequences for regional stability and international human rights norms.
