WHO Says Israeli Restrictions Block Medical Supplies from Entering Gaza

The World Health Organization (WHO) has raised alarms over Israeli-imposed restrictions at the Karm Abu Salem Crossing, which have completely blocked the entry of essential medicines and medical supplies into the Gaza Strip. Despite WHO teams unloading shipments, including around 50 intensive care unit beds and 170 consignments of medicines, Israeli authorities have not permitted their delivery to hospitals and clinics.

Currently, only limited fuel shipments have been allowed through this critical crossing, which remains Gaza’s only open land entry point amid ongoing conflict-related escalations. The disruption severely impacts Gaza’s medical infrastructure and access to healthcare for its nearly two million residents.

The inability to provide necessary medical equipment and medicines amid rising casualties and health emergencies could lead to catastrophic public health failures. WHO warned that no medical supplies deliveries are scheduled to be unloaded over the weekend, further deepening the humanitarian crisis.

The blockage highlights broader concerns about the humanitarian consequences of movement restrictions in conflict zones, underscoring the urgent need for unhindered access to medical aid in Gaza. Failure to address these restrictions will likely worsen conditions amid sustained violence.
