UK Army Names Lt Gen Mike Elviss as Next Allied Rapid Reaction Corps Commander

The British Army has confirmed that Lieutenant General Mike Elviss will succeed Lieutenant General Sir Ralph Wooddisse as Commander of the Allied Rapid Reaction Corps (ARRC) in late March 2026. The ARRC is NATO’s high-readiness force capable of swift deployment to emerging crises, making this appointment critical for alliance defense posture.

Lt Gen Elviss brings extensive operational leadership to the role, currently commanding the UK’s Field Army since March 2024. His prior position as Chief of Staff (Operations) at the Permanent Joint Headquarters demonstrates his familiarity with joint and multinational operations.

This transition reflects the British Army’s commitment to modernizing forces and enhancing interoperability with NATO partners. It arrives amid rising geopolitical tensions in Europe and the evolving nature of military threats requiring rapid, coordinated responses.
