UN Condemns Israeli Threats to Devastate Lebanon Like Gaza

The United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) condemned recent Israeli statements threatening to impose the same level of devastation on Lebanon as witnessed in Gaza. These threats come amidst extensive Israeli airstrikes that have decimated closely packed residential buildings, resulting in numerous civilian casualties including women and children.
Spokesperson Thameen Al Kheetan criticized the remarks as utterly unacceptable given the ongoing civilian suffering in Lebanon and Gaza. The OHCHR highlighted that approximately 70% of the damage in affected urban areas involves the destruction of homes, intensifying fears of severe humanitarian and legal consequences under international humanitarian law.
The warning underscores the potential for escalation in the Israeli-Lebanese conflict, with thousands of Lebanese civilians at risk of experiencing large-scale violence similar to Gaza’s devastating bombings. It also stresses the urgent need to protect civilians in conflict zones and adhere to international laws designed to limit harm to non-combatants.
This development amplifies concerns across the region about the possibility of expanded military operations by Israel against Lebanon, threatening stability in an already volatile area and increasing the humanitarian toll on civilian populations.
