Abbotsford Teen’s Reckless 180 km/h Ride Highlights Dangers of Speeding

An Abbotsford teen is now facing a driver’s license suspension following a series of serious driving offenses captured in a video voluntarily handed to police. On July 21, 2025, the teenager was recorded driving a BMW at 180 km/h on a highway with a speed limit of 100 km/h, a clear violation of traffic laws that put lives at risk.
The footage shows the teen’s friends shifting quickly from enjoyment to alarm as the driver, instead of stopping for a speeding violation, chose to continue at dangerous speeds. This reckless behavior not only endangered the passengers in the car but also other road users and pedestrians.
BC Highway Patrol used the video as a cautionary example to highlight how poor decisions behind the wheel can escalate into life-threatening situations. Corporal Michael McLaughlin emphasized that while no one likes to be stopped by the police, the consequences of fleeing are far more severe than facing a traffic stop.
This case serves as a stark reminder of the risks associated with speeding and irresponsible driving, especially among young drivers, and the importance of adhering to road safety laws to prevent accidents and save lives.
