US Customs Seizes Over 45 Pounds of Illegal Drugs in Mini Fridge Shipment from France

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers in Louisville recently intercepted a shipment arriving from France that was falsely declared as a 'Mini Fridge/Freezer.' A CBP canine alerted to the shipment, leading to a physical inspection that uncovered 12 boxes containing illicit drugs. Among these, seven boxes held 23 pounds of ethylpentedrone hydrochloride, a highly dangerous Schedule I stimulant with no medical use, known to cause severe health effects including cardiac arrest.

The other five boxes contained an additional 23 pounds of ketamine, a Schedule III drug commonly used in medical settings but also subject to abuse. This interception disrupts a significant drug trafficking attempt, targeting substances popular among youth and young adults, who are particularly vulnerable to the harmful effects of these drugs.

The seizure is part of ongoing U.S. efforts to monitor and stop the smuggling of controlled substances through international cargo. Such interceptions help prevent the spread of potent drugs that can lead to social and public health crises. Louisville’s CBP unit continues to focus on identifying and halting shipments masked under legitimate commercial goods.

This event underscores the persistent challenge law enforcement faces in combatting international drug smuggling and highlights the importance of vigilance in customs inspections to protect communities from illicit narcotics.
