UN chief urges US, Israel to end assaults amid Iran attacks on Gulf energy sites

UN Secretary-General António Guterres issued a stark warning regarding the escalating conflict in the Middle East. Speaking after briefing EU leaders in Brussels, he called on the United States and Israel to end their bombing campaigns against Iran to prevent the situation spiraling out of control, which could exacerbate civilian suffering, especially in less developed countries. Guterres emphasized that ongoing attacks are worsening energy prices and supply chain disruptions worldwide.
At the same time, Guterres condemned Iran's recent attacks on natural gas fields and other critical energy infrastructure in the Gulf region. These strikes involve nations that have not participated directly in the conflict but face significant economic fallout as a result. The Secretary-General stressed the urgent need for all parties to respect international law and prioritized multilateral cooperation to avoid further destabilization. The warnings highlight risks of the war expanding beyond direct combatants, impacting global energy security and vulnerable populations.
