Six Nations Condemn Iranian Attacks on Gulf Energy Infrastructure and Shipping

Leaders from six countries, including the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, and Japan, issued a rare joint condemnation of Iran's recent military actions targeting commercial ships and energy infrastructure in the Gulf. These attacks have disrupted critical oil and gas operations and threatened one of the world's busiest maritime chokepoints, the Strait of Hormuz.

The blockade and use of mines, drones, and missiles not only jeopardize regional security but also risk destabilizing global energy markets, given that a significant portion of the world's oil shipments pass through the strait. These measures impact shipping companies, regional economies, and global consumers reliant on energy supplies.

The coalition urged Iran to cease its hostile operations and comply with United Nations Security Council Resolution 2817, which calls for maintaining the security of commercial navigation. The statement underscores heightened tensions amid ongoing conflicts in the Middle East and the risk of escalation if Iran continues its disruptive tactics.

By collectively condemning these acts, the six nations aim to reinforce international norms governing free maritime passage and discourage further aggression that could complicate diplomatic efforts and fuel instability in a geopolitically sensitive region.
