German Foreign Minister Wadephul reaffirms strong Baltic support for Ukraine in Warsaw meeting

On March 4, 2026, German Foreign Minister Michael Wadephul participated in an informal meeting of the Council of the Baltic Sea States (CBSS) held in Warsaw. The session brought together representatives from Germany, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Lithuania, Latvia, Poland, Sweden, Iceland, Norway, and the European Union. Their primary agenda was to discuss sustained political and material support for Ukraine as it faces ongoing Russian military aggression.

Germany and its CBSS partners have been some of Ukraine’s most consistent allies since the full-scale invasion launched by Russia in 2022. Wadephul highlighted that despite other international crises diverting attention, the war in Ukraine remains the most critical security threat facing Europe. The meeting reaffirmed the Baltic region’s united stance to bolster Ukraine’s defense capabilities and political resilience.

The commitment by these northern European nations is vital given their geopolitical proximity and historical concerns about Russian expansionism. With Russia’s conflict causing widespread devastation in Ukraine, the CBSS countries aim to sustain coordinated diplomatic pressure on Moscow while increasing aid and security cooperation with Kyiv.

This solidarity underscores Europe’s broader struggle to contain Russian aggression and maintain regional stability. Continued collaboration among Germany and its Baltic partners will shape future efforts to support Ukraine’s sovereignty and security amid the protracted conflict.
