Brazil’s Federal Police to Lead Security at 2026 COP15 Wildlife Summit

The Brazilian Federal Police convened a strategic meeting on March 20 to align operational protocols and strengthen readiness for the security of the 15th Conference of the Parties to the Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (COP15). The international event will be held in Campo Grande, Mato Grosso do Sul state, from March 23 to 29, 2026.
This marks a major shift as the Federal Police will, for the first time, assume full responsibility for protecting the Blue Zone—the core internal area of the conference historically guarded solely by United Nations security. The expanded role signals significant confidence in Brazil’s law enforcement capabilities to manage such a high-profile environmental summit.
Security preparations aim to integrate various teams and bolster operational procedures to mitigate risks during an event expected to gather numerous international delegates and stakeholders. The involvement of the Federal Police at this level underscores the importance of maintaining safety in a forum crucial for global wildlife conservation policy.
Given the international scope and environmental significance of COP15, effective security coordination by Brazilian authorities will be critical to ensuring the event proceeds without disruption and supports productive negotiations on migratory species protection.
