Two Canadians Arrested at Lewiston Bridge Border Crossing with Large Marijuana Stash

On March 21, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Lewiston Bridge port of entry stopped a Mercedes Benz SUV with Ontario license plates after a narcotics detector dog signaled the presence of drugs. Inside the vehicle, officers found six vacuum-sealed bags of marijuana concealed within the door panel.
The driver, Andrea Seivewright, aged 43, and passenger Daniel Hughes, 35, both Canadian citizens, were taken into custody and handed over to Lewiston Police. They face felony second-degree marijuana possession charges, reflecting serious legal consequences.
This incident underscores the persistent challenge of drug smuggling across the U.S.-Canada border, with border patrol agencies employing enhanced detection techniques to intercept narcotics shipments. Such seizures impact organized trafficking operations and reinforce efforts to secure national borders.
The arrests send a clear message to potential traffickers about the increased scrutiny at land border crossings and the legal risks involved in attempting to smuggle controlled substances into the United States.
