UN Security Council Urged to Support US-Backed Gaza Plan Amid Rising Middle East Tensions

During a UN Security Council session, Nickolay Mladenov, representing the US Peace Board for Gaza, stressed the critical need for implementing the US-backed Comprehensive Plan to End the Gaza Conflict. The plan, endorsed in Council resolution 2803 (2025), seeks to halt Israeli settlement activity as demanded by resolution 2334 and to set up a transitional authority to aid Gaza’s redevelopment.
The initiative responds to escalating violence and destruction across Gaza, impacting over 6,000 residents amid ongoing hostilities. The Board of Peace's measures include disarming armed factions, prioritizing removal of the most dangerous weapons as a condition for reconstruction funding.
The situation remains dire, as the enclave’s recovery depends heavily on international cooperation and adherence to the agreed roadmap. The plan's success is crucial not only for humanitarian relief but also for regional stability given the ongoing conflict involving Israel and Hamas.
Failure to advance the US-backed strategy risks prolonging Gaza’s suffering and may fuel further violence, underscoring the Security Council’s role in enforcing resolutions and supporting peacebuilding efforts.
