UK Condemns Iran's Missile and Drone Attacks on Gulf Arab States, Calls for Regional Stability
The UK issued a strong condemnation of Iran’s recent military offensive targeting Bahrain, Jordan, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates. UK Human Rights Ambassador Eleanor Sanders denounced missile and drone attacks unlawfully undermining the sovereignty and territorial integrity of these Gulf neighbors.
The statement also highlighted Iran’s attacks on unarmed commercial vessels and civilian oil and gas infrastructure, actions that have heightened tensions in a strategically vital region. Particular concern was raised about Iran’s effective blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, a key global oil transit route.
The UK emphasized that freedom of navigation is a core principle under international maritime law and warned that Iran’s actions threaten broader regional stability and security. The UK aligned itself with allied nations calling for Iran to cease military aggression immediately to avoid further escalation.
This condemnation comes amid rising geopolitical tensions in the Gulf, where Iran's conduct risks disrupting critical energy supplies and compromising the security environment affecting millions of people living in and beyond the region.
