UK Condemns Iran’s Military Attacks on Gulf Allies, Calls for Regional Stability

The United Kingdom’s Human Rights Ambassador, Eleanor Sanders, delivered a statement during the UN Human Rights Council’s 61st session condemning Iran’s recent military actions targeting Bahrain, Jordan, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates. The UK described these attacks as a significant threat to civilian safety, regional stability, and global economic interests.

The UK reaffirmed its strong support for its Gulf allies, pledging to continue defending them against aggression. While backing the resolution for an urgent debate, London expressed concerns over assigning reparations and security threat determinations to the Human Rights Council, noting these responsibilities belong to the UN Security Council.

The developments add to rising tensions in the Gulf, where multiple countries are grappling with Iranian military maneuvers. The UK’s vocal response highlights its strategic involvement in Gulf security and underscores international efforts to hold Iran accountable amid concerns over escalating conflict risks.

These events could have broader implications, including risking disruptions to critical regional trade routes and energy supplies, potentially impacting global markets. The UK's stance signals a hardening international approach to Iran’s actions in the Middle East.
