Over 200,000 flee Lebanon amid Israeli strikes; vital food aid blocked to Syria

Since March 2, over 200,000 individuals have fled Lebanon for Syria amid escalating Israeli airstrikes targeting Lebanon. This mass displacement includes nearly 180,000 Syrians, many of whom had previously fled to Lebanon during Syria’s prolonged civil war, now returning under duress. More than 28,000 Lebanese citizens have also crossed into Syria seeking refuge from the violent bombardments.

The displaced arrivals are reported to be exhausted and traumatized, carrying few belongings, with humanitarian agencies highlighting severe disruptions to critical food aid destined for Syria. The blockade of vital supplies amid fighting compounds the plight of refugees and heightens the risk of a humanitarian crisis.

The cross-border movement underscores the escalating regional instability and the complex human toll of the Middle East conflict. The influx of refugees into Syria places additional strain on already fragile infrastructure and aid systems struggling to meet urgent needs.

This escalating displacement highlights the critical need for an immediate cessation of hostilities and restoration of humanitarian corridors to ensure lifesaving assistance reaches those affected by the ongoing conflict in Lebanon and Syria.
