UK Trains Tajik Border Officers to Strengthen Security Along Afghan Border

The OSCE Programme Office in Dushanbe, supported significantly by British expertise, recently completed a four-week Tactical Field Capacity Building training for Tajik border officers at the Hamadoni Border Detachment in the Khatlon region. This training, finalized on December 6, 2024, is designed to strengthen Tajikistan's ability to secure its southern border with Afghanistan, an area vulnerable to insurgent movements and illegal activities stemming from ongoing conflict across the border.
The training involved practical skills in tactical operations and border management, addressing critical security challenges faced by Tajik forces in the region. These measures are part of a continued effort by the OSCE to support stability, good governance, and arms control across Central Asia since its office establishment in 1993.
Border security improvements benefit not only Tajikistan but also regional stability and the interests of international partners concerned about the spillover of violence and illicit trafficking from Afghanistan. Enhanced operational readiness of Tajik forces reduces risks of insurgent infiltration, drug smuggling, and other security threats. The involvement of the UK and other OSCE members exemplifies international commitment to countering regional instability.
As Tajikistan strengthens its southern border defenses, ongoing training and cooperation with international organizations reinforce the broader strategic goal of securing fragile border regions impacted by prolonged conflict and geopolitical tensions in Central Asia.
