Spain Dismisses Ambassador to Israel, Shifts Diplomatic Representation to Chargé d'Affaires

In a significant diplomatic shift, the Spanish government has formally dismissed its ambassador to Israel, Ana Sálomon. This decision was publicly announced through the official state journal following approval at the latest Council of Ministers meeting. Spain's diplomatic representation in Tel Aviv will now be led by a chargé d'affaires, a position that ranks below that of ambassador. This move is seen as a reciprocal act, responding to Israel's prior decision to withdraw its ambassador from Madrid in reaction to Spain's policy changes. The dismissal follows escalating tensions between Spain and Israel, particularly after Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez's comments... [Continue Reading]

US war on Iran: Using military force to achieve political outcomes rarely produces lasting stability

Nadia Massih is pleased to welcome Dafydd Townley, Teaching Fellow in US politics and International Security at the University of Portsmouth. For Mr. Townley, the most striking feature of the current US operation against Iran is the gap between clear military action and ambiguous political strategy. The Pentagon has articulated core military objectives, which includes weakening the country’s military. What remains far less clear, however, is the political end game that these operations are meant to achieve. [Continue Reading]
