FAO says 41 countries and territories need external food assistance
The Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations estimates that 41 countries and territories globally require external assistance for food, including 31 in Africa. The assessment was published by FAO's Global Information and Early Warning System on Food and Agriculture in a report released on 3 July 2026 in Rome. FAO said conflict and insecurity remain the primary drivers of the most severe levels of acute food insecurity.
