France forecasts 30-year low wine harvest after severe heat and drought
French winemakers are forecasting a 30-year low in wine production after a summer of severe heat and drought damaged vineyards across the country. Initial estimates suggest this year's harvest will come in at just under 34 million hectolitres, according to the agriculture ministry. The forecast comes after what was described as France's hottest ever recorded summer.The government's farming statistics body, Agreste, said production is expected to be 6% lower than last year and 17% below the 2021-2025 average.
