Man fatally shot by police after stabbing three at New York's Grand Central Station

A stabbing and shooting incident occurred at New York City's Grand Central Station on the morning of April 11, 2026.

A man armed with a machete attacked three people on a subway platform before being shot by police officers.

The attacker, identified as 44-year-old Anthony Griffin, stabbed three victims-a 70-year-old woman and two men aged 84 and 65-causing injuries to their heads and faces.

All victims were transported to Bellevue Hospital with non-life-threatening wounds.

Griffin ignored at least 20 police commands to drop his weapon and charged at officers on the platform serving subway lines 4, 5, and 6.

Police responded by shooting him twice.

Despite life-saving efforts, Griffin later died in hospital.

The New York Police Department stated that officers were confronted with an armed individual who had already injured multiple people and continued to pose a threat.

The incident took place around 9:40 a.m. local time.

This event disrupted subway services significantly, with several trains bypassing Grand Central Station until further notice.

The Metropolitan Transit Authority advised commuters to expect delays and avoid the area.

Witnesses reported seeing the attacker wielding a large knife and police officers issuing commands before the shooting.
